Speer Piano Studio uses several methods; Royal Conservatory of Music, Alfred, Bastien and Faber to name a few. These publishers provide lesson books, theory, and pieces. The selection of books will vary because there is no “one size fits all” solution.
I introduce fundamentals, then solo pieces in various styles. Often same concepts are used in different types of music. So, for example…musical structure within a piece can be shown in classical and even popular music! Lessons are geared to produce the best results.
There is no easy way to learn any instrument. It does take time and practice, which we make enjoyable and rewarding.
LESSON STYLE
My first lesson is a casual meeting with the student (child/parent, or adult}. I want to meet and start to develop a good relationship and understanding with all involved. With younger students I talk with the parent and show them what we are working on and the logic behind it.
Of course, this strategy applies to adults as well. I watch the student’s progress very carefully and acknowledge accomplishments because this creates enthusiasm and further development. For me, it is the greatest feeling to see the smile on my student’ s face!
They have found the joy that music can bring!
